So hi, I’m Jacob, animal lover, motorcycle enthusiast, gamer and of course programmer.

I always had a fascination with video games ever since my parents bought me an old Atari 2600.
Later I bought an Atari 800xl where I would write my own small basic programs.

After high school I went to the ROC of Twente in Hengelo where I studied IT Level 2 and 3,
learning basic IT kills as well as some basic networking skills.
I finished Level 4 at the ROC of Twente in Almelo learning how to program and understand algorithms.

After finishing Level 4 in Almelo I had to make a choice, I loved programming and figuring out how things worked and I also had a healthy interest in electronics. I regularly made my own snes/nes carts on the weekend, so it was only fitting that I would choose a study that played into that.
That’s why I decided to study technical IT at Saxion in Enschede instead of continuing down the IT route.

Sadly the math proved too much for me and I decided to switch studies halfway through the first year.
My study coach at the time recommended me to check out the game engineering study, I had considered the study before but thought it would mix hobby and career too much.

However, with with the recommendation from my old study coach I happily started the study and I am still very happy that I did because it turned out it was a prefect match.
The math was still very challenging but nothing a few dedicated weeks of studying couldn’t take care of.
My favorite courses were the ones that delved into the fundamentals of programming, not just writing code and expect things to happen but really understand what happens under the hood.
The C++ course in particular I really enjoyed, I always had a fascination with the low level side of things and on a pc other than x86/x64 assembly that’s pretty much as low as you can go. The OS still does a lot of heavy lifting of course. That’s why I started a project called Demon District with my friend Benjámin Pazaurek where I am making a NES game from the ground up in 6502 assembly.
